Personality tests like the Myers-Briggs or Big Five are very entertaining. But do they actually mean anything?
Psychologists evaluate measures like this in two ways.
Firstly, is the test valid, i.e. does it actually measure the 'thing' we call personality?
Secondly, is the test reliable, i.e. does it measure something consistently? If I redo the test at another time, will I get the same result?
Let's find out. Today I am taking two personality tests, the 16 Personalities test (16personalities.com) and the Big Five test (openpsychometrics.org/tests/IPIP-BFFM). In a few months I will take them again, to see if they produce the same results.
