C.S. Lewis is a classic and beloved writer, but most people ignore what is arguably his best work. In The Space Trilogy, which consists of 'Out of the Silent Planet,' 'Perelandra,' and 'That Hideous Strength,' Lewis explores philosophy, speculative theology, and much more — all while telling a pretty good story.
In my opinion, this series is better than the 'Chronicles of Narnia', better than 'The Screwtape Letters,' and perhaps only rivaled by the best of Lewis' nonfiction — in particular, 'The Abolition of Man.'
Enjoy!
TWO NOTES:
1. I say we're rapidly approaching 100 since Lewis was born. Lewis was born in 1898, and so I must admit that I was wrong.
2. I say all the Narnia books share a theme. I meant to say they share a narrative structure. I also did not mention the fact that The Last Battle differs in a few important ways.
